What is Modafinil?

Take this narcolepsy medicine by mouth, with or without food, once daily in the morning, as instructed by your doctor. Alternatively, if your doctor instructs you, the entire daily amount of modafinil can be divided into two doses: one in the morning and one in the afternoon.

Take this drug by mouth, with or without food, as advised by your doctor for obstructive sleep apnea, generally once daily in the morning. Unless your doctor advises you to stop, keep using your existing treatments (such as a CPAP machine or a mouth device).

If you’re using modafinil for shift work sleep problems, take it by mouth, with or without food, as advised by your doctor, generally once a day, one hour before your shift begins. The dose is determined by your medical condition and treatment response. To receive the best benefit from this drug, take it on a daily basis.

You may get withdrawal symptoms if you suddenly stop using this drug (such as shaking, sweating, chills, nausea, vomiting, confusion). To avoid withdrawal, your doctor may gradually reduce your dose. If you’ve been using modafinil for a long period or in large quantities, you’re more likely to have withdrawal symptoms. If you have withdrawal symptoms, contact your doctor or pharmacist straight away.

It’s possible that if you use this drug for a long time, it won’t function as effectively. If this drug isn’t functioning as well as it used to, talk to your doctor.
